The South Korean Defense Ministry announced on Tuesday that it will restore all military operations along the North Korean border that had previously been restricted under the 2018 inter-Korean pact. The agreement will remain suspended until mutual trust between the two countries has been restored, Ednews reports via Yonhap.
"All responsibility for causing this situation lies with the North Korean regime and if the North attempts to stage an additional provocation, our military will sternly retaliate based on a firm S. Korea-U.S. combined defense posture," the ministry said.
According to a government source speaking on the condition of anonymity to Yonhap, there appears to be no plan to install fixed loudspeakers near the border as such a decision could heighten military tension on the Peninsula. Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesperson Lee Sung-jun underlined that Seoul's next move would depend on North Korea's actions.
