A new chapter is opening in the energy cooperation between Turkiye and Azerbaijan.
According to a report by “EDnews,” Turkiye's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, stated this in an interview with Anadolu.
He mentioned that the possibility of transmitting electricity, particularly renewable energy produced in Azerbaijan, to Turkiye via Georgia and Nakhchivan is being considered. “Of course, we aim to integrate this with the European market,” he added.
The Minister also mentioned that Turkiye will host the meeting of the energy ministers of the Turkic States Organization (TDT) this year: “We plan to transform the ongoing bilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan into multilateral cooperation, thus expanding the economic volume.”
Bayraktar emphasized that the Southern Gas Corridor, which ensures the transportation of natural gas from the Caspian Sea to Turkiye and then to Europe, is a world-class project. He pointed out that this has been made possible by the strong political will of the two countries’ leaders.
“Our goal is to increase the capacity of TANAP, which currently stands at 16 billion cubic meters, to 31 billion cubic meters. As always, Turkiye is ready to fulfill its role as both an important market and a natural gas hub. The transportation of Azerbaijani oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline contributes significantly to the world oil markets.”
