The Azerbaijani Embassy in Cuba organized a scientific and academic event dedicated to the 102nd anniversary of the birth of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev at the Cuban Institute of Peoples' Friendship. During his speech, N. Rabaza noted that the memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev is remembered with great respect in Cuba, that Heydar Aliyev always had pleasant impressions of Cuba, and that he had good relations with the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Cuba, Fidel Castro.
“EDnews” reports that the event was attended by the leadership of the Cuban Institute of Peoples' Friendship, representatives of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Central Committee, members of scientific and academic circles, as well as Cubans who had studied in Azerbaijan.
Ms. Noemi Rabaza, First Vice President of the Institute of Peoples' Friendship, spoke about the history of diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Cuba, the friendly relations between the countries, the work done by the parties to further strengthen these relations, and the successful cooperation they have implemented. She noted Azerbaijan's constant support for this country in the traditional annual votes at the UN General Assembly regarding the lifting of the economic embargo against Cuba, and emphasized that this position is highly appreciated by the Cuban government and people.
Then, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Cuba Ruslan Rzayev made a speech. The diplomat informed the participants of the event in detail about the invaluable services that the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev rendered to Azerbaijan during his leadership of the former Soviet Union and during the period of independence. Speaking about the period of Heydar Aliyev's leadership of independent Azerbaijan, the Ambassador emphasized that it was precisely as a result of the efforts of the Great Leader that Azerbaijan became a powerful state that speaks for itself in the international arena, and today his political course is successfully continued by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
Then, speaking, Professor Oscar Julian Villar Barroso of the University of Havana spoke about the political legacy of Heydar Aliyev, the great work he did for independent Azerbaijan during the Soviet Union and later. The speaker provided detailed information to the event participants about the important economic projects undertaken by the Great Leader for the strengthening and development of Azerbaijan, which had gone through the severe tests of time in the first years of its independence, faced the Karabakh war and experienced socio-economic difficulties. At the end, a video about the life and work of Heydar Aliyev, translated into Spanish with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Cuba, was shown to the event participants.
