Azerbaijan-Egypt relations contribute to greater stability in their region - MP Konul Nurullayeva

Politics 10:29 11.06.2024

"The success of the political course aimed at the development of Azerbaijan's foreign policy and cooperation in all directions in the world continues. Relations with the USA, Russia, as well as the countries of the region, Iran, Central Asia, the Middle East, and the countries of the European Union are at a high level. The visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Egypt last week also demonstrated that Azerbaijan's relations with the Arab world are at a high level. At the same time, a new page was opened in the relations between the two countries. For more than 30 years, established diplomatic relations have been successfully developed. The main goal of official Baku and official Cairo is to achieve mutually beneficial relations to bring additional stability to the regions where we are located. As Mr. President Ilham Aliyev said, no country can develop successfully without stability."

These words were told by Member of the Parliament of Azerbaijan, Konul Nurullayeva to Ednews while commenting on President Ilham Aliyev's significant visit to Egypt. According to her, during the visit, it was once again declared that there is great potential for developing relations between the two countries, and mutual visits create important opportunities for the rapid expansion of cooperation:

"In this regard, the official visit of the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev to Egypt will make new contributions to the deepening of cooperation between our countries. It is known that before that the President of Egypt visited Azerbaijan, and the visit of the President of Azerbaijan to Egypt was a turning point in the development of bilateral relations. Azerbaijan and Egypt also support each other within the framework of international organizations. As our head of state mentioned, we actively work within the framework of international organizations, including the UN, the Non-Aligned Movement, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and we make joint efforts to strengthen Islamic solidarity. With the support of Egypt, Azerbaijan chaired the Non-Aligned Movement for four years. As a result of this chairmanship, the Movement had greater opportunities", - she stated.

MP states that it became clear from the negotiations that there is a great potential for the development of economic and trade relations between the parties:

"The issues of development of relations in the fields — energy, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, various industries, transport, and so on — were discussed once again. Egypt is a large market with a population of over 100 million and a large country located in a strategic geography. It is a country with convenient access to Africa, Middle East and other regions.

Cooperation between Egypt and Azerbaijan in the religious and spiritual field is also at a high level. In the meeting of Mr. President Ilham Aliyev with the sheikh of Al-Azhari Sharif, great imam Ahmed Muhammad Ahmed Al Tayyib, an important discussion was held in this direction. Azerbaijan is a country that constantly contributes to Islamic solidarity, and attaches great importance to issues that are of concern to the Islamic world. Azerbaijan has always had a fair and principled position on the Palestinian issue. It is also of great importance that Azerbaijan voiced this principled position in Egypt, which is one of the centers of the Arab-Islamic world."

"Evaluating the results of the visit, it can be said with certainty that the relations between Azerbaijan and Egypt are of a historical nature and there is a basis for the further development of the current political relations", - she added in her conclusion.
