A large number of landmines were found in four villages of the Gazakh district returned to Azerbaijan, the head of the public association "Azerbaijan Campaign against Mines" Hafiz Safikhanov said at a press conference dedicated to the results of the project to strengthen international support for Azerbaijan in demining, Ednews informs.
He noted that although the presence of about 100,000 mines was assumed in the occupied territories, after the Patriotic War it turned out that this figure exceeded 1.5 million.
Safikhanov added that monitoring was also carried out in four villages returned to Azerbaijan during the delimitation process: "These territories were also massively mined. Our sappers even searched 5-10 meters from the Armenian posts. Unfortunately, mine explosions occurred in these four villages during demining."
