The Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum’s Eurasian Regional Center has launched the “International Youth Platform for the Protection of the Rights of Mine Victims” during a side event at the UN ECOSOC Youth Forum in New York. Ramin Habibzade, Deputy Director General, presented the platform at the session titled “Non-Aligned Movement Youth Perspective: Regional and Global Cooperation in Mine Action.” He emphasized the importance of regional and global collaboration in mine action and highlighted the pivotal role of youth in these efforts.
The platform, established in 2023, aims to amplify the voices of mine victims, particularly young individuals, support youth-led advocacy and rehabilitation initiatives, and foster international cooperation in mine action. The presentation included an interactive Q&A session with participants from various countries, UN agencies, the Non-Aligned Movement Youth Organization, and other relevant organizations.
This initiative builds upon previous efforts, such as the establishment of the platform during the Borneo Youth Camp in Indonesia, where international experts and youth activists from ASEAN countries convened to address the consequences of landmines and adopt a statement on youth engagement in mine action.
