Armenian parliament was not able to elect a new president, Sputnik Armenia reports.
The only candidate from the ruling Civic Contract party, Minister of High Technology Industry Vahagn Khachatryan, received a total of 69 votes, which was less than the required minimum number of votes (81).
Opposition factions “I have honor” and “Hayastan” boycotted the discussion of the presidential candidacy.
According to the constitution, the second and third rounds of the presidential election are possible, with 65 and 54 votes, respectively.
