The Russian Foreign Ministry's ambassador-at-large Yury Sentyurin told RIA Novosti on Monday that the European Union declared his country's gas exports as a "resource non grata" due to politics.
Ednews reports that Sentyurin blamed the circumstances on the EU's unilateral sanctions on Russia due to its military operation in Ukraine and Moscow's forced retaliatory steps. He stressed that, due to political reasons, the bloc refuses to import "inexpensive and environmentally friendly natural gas, which Russia has been faithfully supplying to European consumers for decades."
"Russia has always preferred the path of energy cooperation with partners based on the principles of mutual respect, the balance of interests, and mutual benefit," Sentyurin insisted.
