Turkish presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu (pictured), leader of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) expressed a desire to see Sweden become a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) before the upcoming July summit of the alliance, TASS reported, citing Kilicdaroglu's foreign policy adviser, EDnews informs.
If the opposition wins the May elections and forms a government quickly, it intends to promptly approve Sweden's application to join NATO, according to the media outlet.
In May of last year, both Sweden and Finland applied to join the alliance, but Turkey blocked the accession process.
