"Proud to partner with Violet Grgich, President, Grgich Hills Estate for the past two decades, as we cultivate peace through agriculture worldwide."
EDnews informs that Heidi Thomas Kuhn, CEO and Founder of Roots of Peace NGO shared this on her Facebook page.
'Our journey began in 1997, when I had a vision to turn ‘Mines to Vines’—replacing minefields vineyards and orchards on war-torn lands. The California vintners strongly supported me—turning an idea into reality."
"Her father, Miljenko ‘Mike’ Grgich, is a legendary vintner, who won The Paris Tasting in 1976 placing Napa Valley on the map as a prominent grape growing region. Mike was born in Croatia, and traveled with me to his beloved homeland in May 2000 to witness the tragic effects of an estimated 1.2 million landmines following The Balkan War", she added.
According to her, together they took action to eradicate these seeds of destruction from the soil and restored the land with grapes, cherries and lavender:
"Today, Croatia is a top tourist destination in the world. Peace is possible, as humanity must galvanize with a plan to restore the one earth we share with regenerative agriculture on war-torn lands—from Azerbaijan to Zimbabwe."
"Over 30% of Ukraine is now contaminated by landmines/UXO’s. This is the size of Maryland, Virginia and Connecticut combined. Roots of Peace seeks to restore the ‘Breadbasket of Ukraine’ with regenerative agriculture and heal the wounds of war for future generations to thrive", H.T.Kuhn concluded.
