Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi appointed Revolutionary Guards commander Ali Akbar Ahmadian as the country's next Supreme National Security Council secretary on Monday, EDnews informs via Reuters.
The decision comes after the council's outgoing secretary, Ali Shamkhani, hinted at his resignation in a Twitter post over the weekend. Shamkhani served as the security council's secretary since 2013, and has successfully brokered a settlement between Riyadh and Tehran that allowed the reestablishment of diplomatic ties after seven years of tensions in April.
