A quake with a magnitude of 5.0 struck South Africa, as indicated by data provided by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) on Sunday, Ednews informs.
The epicenter was recorded at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers at 2:38 am local time, approximately 18 kilometers southeast of Johannesburg, the country's largest city with a population of over 5.5 million people.
Local media reported that the tremor woke up residents, with some describing their homes shaking for about 40 seconds. There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
