Former Audi AG CEO Rupert Stadler received on Tuesday a 21-month suspended sentence for his role in the so-called Dieselgate scandal, in which Audi's parent company Volkswagen Group was found to have manipulated emissions data on thousands of Audi vehicles.
Stadler initially denied knowledge of the scheme and was charged with fraud in 2019. He reached a plea deal last month, admitting that he allowed the vehicles to be sold even after he learned they were fitted with manipulated software.
