Belarus informed Brazil on Friday that it wants to become a member of BRICS, the international organization comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
The Belarusian Foreign Ministry said that the country's ambassador to Brazil, Sergey Lukashevich, met with the South American country's ministry's Secretary for Europe and North America Maria Luisa Escorel de Moraes and handed her a note confirming Minsk's intention to join the group.
Earlier, several other countries, including Egypt, Iran, Argentina and Bangladesh, have applied to become BRICS members and multiple others expressed an interest in joining.
