A South Korean lawmaker shared on Thursday that he was informed that North Korea requested to speak at a United Nations Security Council session today, Yonhap quoted him as saying.
People Power Party (PPP) leader Kim Gi-hyeon stated that the news has been relayed to him during a meeting with United Kingdom Ambassador to the United Nations Barbara Woodward. He added that the UNSC is currently preparing to hear Pyongyang's speech at a meeting that will take place at 4 pm ET.
Kim stated that this "will be the first speech by a North Korean representative at a UNSC meeting in 10 years." UNSC previously revealed that it will hold an "urgent" meeting following North Korea's latest missile launch.
