Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko submitted an official application to the heads of the BRICS member states, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Tuesday.
"This decision was an absolutely logical step in the context of expanding cooperation in multilateral formats with traditional partners and friendly states," the Belarusian Foreign Ministry stated.
The BRICS member countries represent more than 40% of the world's population and generate more than 30% of the world's GDP.
