The United States embassy in Belarus issued a warning on Monday and urged its nationals to leave Belarus "immediately."
The embassy's statement noted that Lithuania previously closed two of its border crossings with Belarus and that Poland, Latvia, and Estonia all indicated they could do the same. The mission urged US citizens to depart via one of the latter three countries as they are "not permitted to enter Poland overland from Belarus." It underscored the citizens should not go to Russia or Ukraine.
"Do not travel to Belarus due to Belarusian authorities' continued facilitation of Russia's unprovoked attack on Ukraine, the buildup of Russian military forces in Belarus, the arbitrary enforcement of local laws, the potential of civil unrest, the risk of detention, and the Embassy's limited ability to assist US citizens residing in or traveling to Belarus," the embassy stressed.
