European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Friday that the bloc paid Ukraine the latest installment of €1.5 billion in financial aid, bringing its total financial aid given to the war-torn country this year to €13.5 billion.
"Just this year, we paid €13.5 billion to help Ukraine keep hospitals, schools and other services running. This also helps Ukraine on its EU path by supporting transformative reforms. Europe remains firmly by Ukraine's side," von der Leyen tweeted on X.
In October 2022, von der Leyen announced that the European Union will give Ukraine a total of €18 billion in monthly installments of €1.5 billion in 2023.
