"The terrorist act of 1999 may be repeated," said Alen Simonyan, the Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, Ednews reports citing Sputnik Armenia.
A. Simonyan said that the events that took place on the eve of the terrorist attack in 1999 were relatively less important than the processes taking place now.
The speaker said that the participants in the crime that happened 24 years ago and their motives are known, the only thing left is to bring the criminals to justice.
Recall that on October 27, 1999, a group of people led by Nairi Hunanyan entered the parliament and opened fire on the meeting hall. The gang members took several hostages with them. During the incident, eight people were killed, including Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan and Speaker Karen Demirchyan. The trial of those who attacked the parliament began in February 2001 and lasted until December 2003. The trial of 7 people involved in the incident was held. Six of them were sentenced to life imprisonment, and one person was sentenced to 14 years.
So far, the names of the real orderers of the terrorist act have not been revealed.
