Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during roundtable negotiations on the Ukraine crisis on Wednesday that the West is focused on destroying the global economy to teach Russia a lesson.
"The West has decided to destroy the world economy for the sake of the task of teaching Russia a lesson, to prevent Russia from playing a role on the international stage that suits its history, its size, its capabilities," Lavrov said, adding that European Union has until now lost up to €250 billion due to anti-Russian sanctions.
He also noted that the United States is "forcing the EU to give up everything Russian" while buying uranium and other critical materials from his country. Lavrov concluded by saying that Western sanctions "are not going anywhere in the distant future."
