The cocaine shipment was discovered on a Liberian-flagged cargo ship in the Turkish Mediterranean port of Yumurtalik. The captain and crew members of the ship were brought ashore for questioning as part of an investigation into drug smuggling, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya wrote on X, Ednews informs referring to TASS.
“Some 51 kg 750 g of cocaine were seized on the cargo ship Berge Tore, flying the flag of Liberia, during an operation carried out in Yumurtalik port in the province of Adana. They were in 45 packages in two plastic bags tied to anchor chains in the cargo compartment. As many as 26 people, including the captain, were detained for testimony, as well as the captain’s assistants and members of the ship’s crew,” the minister wrote.
