The Finnish government intends to close crossings on the border with Russia on Thursday to ensure national security, Ednews informs via the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.
According to the paper, the reason for the possible closure is that the situation on the eastern border of Finland changed on Wednesday. It is not yet known whether it is planned to close all or only some crossings on the border with the Russian Federation.
The government was supposed to decide on restrictive measures at an extraordinary meeting, which began on Wednesday at 17:00 local time (GMT+2). However, the discussion of the issue dragged on, and the final decision was postponed to Thursday.
Earlier, the country's Interior Minister Mari Rantanen said that the Finnish authorities decided to begin preparatory work to restrict traffic on the border with Russia.
