Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban asked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for his support in joining efforts to bring the Russian-Ukrainian war to an end amid an escalation that has been "more brutal" than "even before."
On Wednesday, Orban posted a video on X in which he commented on a meeting he had with Erdogan in the preview of the NATO Summit in Washington. He stressed that Turkey has been an important "player in peace-making" so it is seeking rapprochements in what the Hungarian government has called its "peace mission" now that it has assumed the presidency of the Council of the European Union.
"The positions of the warring parties are still far from each other, but if the friends of peace join forces, together we can take the next step in the direction of peace," Orban mentioned. Against EU leaders approval, Orban met the Russian leader and the Chinese on the same topic.
