Prince Harry will not be staying at Buckingham Palace during part of his visit to London this week after conflicting accounts emerged over an accommodation offer, EDnews reports, citing the BBC.
Buckingham Palace said the Duke of Sussex failed to formally accept an invitation to stay at a royal residence before the required deadline and was informed over the weekend that arrangements could no longer be made.
According to palace sources, guests must confirm their stay in advance to allow sufficient time for Royal Household staff to prepare accommodation.
However, Prince Harry's spokesperson disputed the palace's version of events, saying the duke had accepted the invitation and that the offer was later "withdrawn," describing the decision as "disappointing."
The palace maintains that Harry's team initially declined the offer before attempting to accept it after the deadline had passed, by which time it was too late to make arrangements.
The disagreement comes ahead of Prince Harry's visit to promote the Invictus Games, which will be held in Birmingham next year, as well as attend charity engagements.
The dispute has further highlighted ongoing tensions between the Duke of Sussex and the Royal Household, with both sides publicly presenting conflicting accounts of the events.
Harry is expected to travel without his wife, Meghan, and their children, Archie and Lilibet, after it was confirmed the family would not receive taxpayer-funded police protection during the UK visit.
The accommodation disagreement has also raised uncertainty over whether Prince Harry will meet King Charles during the trip, amid continued strains within the royal family.
