Azerbaijan will introduce a nationwide system for the identification and electronic tracking of all cattle for the first time, Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov announced during a meeting on the 2026–2030 State Program for the Development of the Agricultural Sector.
According to the minister, the development of the livestock industry will be one of the central priorities of the new state program.
“For the first time, all cattle will be identified at the expense of the state budget, and an electronic registration system will be established,” Mammadov said.
The initiative is expected to improve livestock management, strengthen disease monitoring, enhance food safety standards, and increase efficiency across the cattle-breeding sector.
The minister also outlined a range of additional measures planned under the program, including the creation of dairy and meat production clusters, expanded access to pedigree livestock, the establishment of milk and hide collection centers, and modernization of the country’s feed supply infrastructure.
Mammadov emphasized that state support for livestock producers will be significantly increased in the coming years.
“Although livestock production accounts for about 50% of total agricultural output, direct subsidies allocated to the sector amounted to only around 6%. This ratio will be revised under the new state program,” he said.
The reforms are part of broader efforts to modernize Azerbaijan’s agricultural sector, boost productivity, and strengthen the competitiveness of domestic livestock production.
