Azerbaijan will host a new international conference dedicated to the country’s mine contamination issue in early September, according to Vugar Suleymanov, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
Speaking at a briefing marking the 28th anniversary of ANAMA, Suleymanov said the event will bring together international partners to discuss the ongoing challenges of mine clearance and strengthen global awareness of the humanitarian impact of landmines in Azerbaijan.
He noted that demining operations across the country are being carried out through the joint efforts of ANAMA, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, a non-governmental organization, and five local private companies.
Suleymanov emphasized that international cooperation remains a key priority for the agency, with continued efforts to keep the global community informed about the scale of Azerbaijan’s mine problem.
According to him, international conferences serve as an important platform to present the extent of mine contamination, share progress in clearance operations, and discuss the obstacles that remain. The next such conference is scheduled to take place at the beginning of September.
