Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have signed a landmark agreement in New York, launching a new phase of cooperation focused on the country's liberated territories.
The agreement was signed by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of Azerbaijan's State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture and National Coordinator for WUF13 Azerbaijan, and UN-Habitat Executive Director Anacláudia Rossbach.
Under the agreement, UN-Habitat will, for the first time, directly contribute to the planning of rural settlements in Azerbaijan's liberated territories. The joint project предусматривает the preparation of spatial planning documents for Guyjag village in Jabrayil district and Mollabayramli village in Kalbajar district.
The initiative is intended to support Azerbaijan's Great Return Programme by promoting sustainable, inclusive and people-centered development for communities returning to their ancestral homes.
Officials said the partnership marks an important milestone in strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and UN-Habitat while advancing reconstruction and long-term regional development.
