Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda has warned that Russia may be preparing limited attacks on critical infrastructure in Lithuania and other Baltic states to test NATO's unity, citing intelligence assessments.
In an interview with news agency BNS, Nausėda said Lithuanian intelligence services had received indications that Moscow was planning targeted "kinetic" operations, although no specific targets or timeline had been identified.
"I cannot deny that we have such information and that we are talking about kinetic operations, not large-scale, but nevertheless targeted kinetic operations, which very likely could be directed at critical infrastructure facilities," he said.
According to Nausėda, the potential attacks could involve sabotage or drone strikes aimed at damaging key infrastructure.
He said Lithuania has already strengthened security around strategic transport and energy facilities, noting that they are essential to the country's infrastructure and its integration with the continental European electricity grid.
The Lithuanian president also declined to comment on the future rotation of US troops in the country, saying discussions with Washington are continuing and no final decisions have been made.
