A protest was held Thursday in the northern Italian city of Milan against a recently approved Israeli law expanding the use of the death penalty for Palestinians.
Hundreds of demonstrators gathered near the city’s iconic Duomo Cathedral, waving Palestinian flags and voicing opposition to the legislation passed earlier this week by the Israeli Knesset.
The law allows Israeli courts to impose the death penalty by hanging on Palestinians convicted of deadly attacks in military courts.
During the protest, participants chanted slogans in support of Palestinian rights and against the policy.
Organizers said the demonstration was aimed at drawing international attention to the legal and human rights implications of the measure.
A separate protest against the death penalty is scheduled to take place on Friday in the southern Italian city of Naples.
Under the law, executions would be carried out by personnel appointed by the Israeli Prison Service, with their identities protected.
The legislation has sparked criticism from international actors and human rights organizations, adding to growing debate over legal standards and accountability in the region.
