The Iranian national football team’s return to its training camp in Tijuana, Mexico, has been delayed after team captain Mehdi Taremi and assistant coach Saeed Alhoui were stopped during departure procedures at Los Angeles International Airport.
EDnews reports, citing Iran’s semi-official Tasnim News Agency, that the two officials faced delays while completing exit formalities following Iran’s opening match against New Zealand at the FIFA World Cup.
According to the report, the remaining members of the Iranian squad had already boarded their flight to Mexico, while Taremi and Alhoui were still awaiting clearance as authorities worked to resolve the issue.
The incident reportedly mirrors delays experienced by the pair upon their arrival in the United States earlier in the tournament.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Football Federation is also seeking to secure a multiple-entry visa for winger Mehdi Torabi, whose single-entry visa expired after the match, raising concerns about his ability to travel between host locations during the competition.
No official explanation has yet been provided regarding the airport delays.
