Iran national team head coach Amir Ghalenoei has described his side as the “most oppressed team in the World Cup” following a series of logistical disruptions affecting their travel and recovery schedule.
EDnews reports that Ghalenoei made the remarks after Iran’s 2-2 draw with New Zealand, saying the team was unexpectedly instructed to return to its training base in Mexico immediately after the match in Los Angeles.
The Iranian squad had initially planned to establish its training camp in Tucson, Arizona, but was forced to relocate at the last minute to Tijuana, Mexico, due to visa and logistical complications.
“They delayed our arrivals, [now] they are forcing us to go back early without time for recovery,” Ghalenoei said.
“They are making the situation more and more difficult, facing us with more hurdles. But we’re not going to let that stop us from doing our best. That’s why I think we are the most oppressed team in the World Cup,” he added.
The comments highlight ongoing off-field challenges faced by the Iranian squad during the tournament, including travel delays and administrative hurdles impacting their preparations.
