Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has disclosed details of his discussions with US President Donald Trump during meetings with G7 leaders.
EDnews reports, citing RBC-Ukraine, that Zelensky shared the information while speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the summit.
According to Zelensky, all leaders attending the G7 summit reaffirmed their support for Ukraine and condemned Russia’s latest attacks on civilian infrastructure.
The Ukrainian president said G7 leaders do not see any indication that Russia is ready to end the war.
“Everyone believes that the war must end under any circumstances. Everyone sees that there is no such desire on Russia’s side. First and foremost, Putin does not want to end it, but he must be forced to do so,” Zelensky stated.
He added that Ukraine’s partners support increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, particularly through stronger measures targeting the so-called “shadow fleet.”
Zelensky also said that strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities was one of the key topics discussed during his meeting with President Trump.
“We talked about what Ukraine needs. Everyone understands the importance of air defense, and everyone is ready to help. All G7 countries will work to strengthen our defenses,” he noted.
According to Zelensky, Ukrainian and US teams will also work on obtaining licenses for the production of anti-ballistic systems and missiles.
Preparations for Ukraine’s next heating season were also discussed separately during the summit.
Zelensky said he presented partners with a “winter package” support plan that includes additional assistance for the energy sector, fuel supplies, and the protection of critical infrastructure.
He noted that Canada, Japan, Germany, and other partner countries expressed support for these initiatives.
The Ukrainian leader also announced that France would assist in restoring the protective sarcophagus at the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant following damage caused by Russian drone attacks.
In addition, Switzerland will contribute to the restoration of facilities at the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra that were damaged by Russian strikes.
Zelensky said G7 participants also reaffirmed their support for Ukraine’s integration into the European Union.
According to him, partners consider the opening of negotiation clusters a fair step and see no obstacles to Ukraine’s progress toward EU membership.
The G7 summit is taking place in France on June 16, with President Zelensky participating in the event.
Earlier, Zelensky said he had proposed a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the summit. According to Ukrainian officials, Moscow had been informed of the proposal in advance.
The Kremlin has since commented on the initiative, while President Trump also addressed prospects for ending the war in Ukraine before meeting with Zelensky.
