Tehran — Thousands of mourners gathered at Tehran's Grand Mosalla religious complex on Saturday for the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, with crowds chanting "Death to America" and "Revenge" as they awaited the arrival of his coffin.
Many attendees carried red banners, a symbol widely associated in Iran with calls for vengeance, underscoring the charged atmosphere surrounding the funeral.
According to witnesses, large crowds began assembling early in the morning, with mourners filling metro stations across the capital before the transit system opened in an effort to reach the ceremony.
The funeral comes amid heightened regional tensions following Khamenei's death, with emotions running high among supporters gathered to pay their respects.
