U.S. President Donald Trump claimed Friday that Iran is seeking to "settle" its dispute with the United States, while asserting that Washington allowed Tehran a one-week pause following the funeral of Iran's late Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.
Speaking during Independence Day celebrations at Mount Rushmore, marking the start of the United States' 250th anniversary commemorations, Trump highlighted American military strength and praised what he described as U.S. global dominance.
During his remarks, Trump referred to recent U.S. military actions, claiming rapid success against Venezuela before turning to Iran.
"We beat Venezuela in one day, and we knocked the hell out of Iran. They're dying to settle; they want to settle so badly," Trump said.
He further claimed that the United States paused its pressure campaign to allow Iran time to hold funeral ceremonies for Khamenei.
"We gave them a week off for a funeral because we're nice," he added.
Trump did not provide evidence to support his assertion that Iran is seeking negotiations or that the U.S. formally granted a pause for the funeral. Iranian authorities have not publicly responded to the comments.
