The Armenian authorities’ policy actions in the Nagorno-Karabakh peace talks provide clear sign they pursue neither a specific strategy nor a concept to reach the desired outcome, says Giro Manoyan, the political affairs director of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation-Dashnaksutyun (ARF-D).
In an interview with Tert.am, the politician cited Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan’s statement in Bratislava (Slovakia), noting that his calls for a solution “based on the Nagorno-Karabakhpopulation’s free will-expression” was expressed in the nationwide referendums of both 1991 and 2006. “The disregard by the Armenian authorities for all this processes demonstrates that they are not taking specific steps towards the international recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh,” he said, blaming also the prime minister for “contradictory statements” undermining Armenia’s positions on the international arena.
“The prime minister says that the Nagorno-Karabakhauthorities must take part in the negotiations, but ahead of his meeting with the Azerbaijani president, Nikol Pashinyan appeared with a statement saying that the Nagorno-Karabakhauthorities and Armenia 'share a unanimous position' on the Nagorno-Karabakhsettlement issue. Additionally, the prime minister stated in Stelanakert that ‘Artsakh is Armenia - period’. All this makes clear that there is neither a strategy, nor vision and nor even a concept. And this isn’t what we say; it is what the authorities’ actions suggest by definition,” the politican added.
