The UN Security Council has voted to extend the United Nations' monitoring of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea for another six months.
The resolution was adopted with 13 votes in favor, while China and Russia abstained. Under the measure, the UN Secretary-General will continue to provide the Security Council with monthly reports on developments related to the attacks.
The Houthis began targeting commercial shipping in the Red Sea in late 2023, saying the attacks were aimed at vessels linked to Israel in response to the war in Gaza. Shipping companies and several governments have said the attacks have disrupted one of the world's busiest maritime trade routes.
