The United States has imposed new sanctions on more than 50 individuals, entities and vessels accused of supporting an Iranian shipping network involved in alleged sanctions evasion and illicit oil trade.
The US State Department said the measures target a network linked to Iranian oil shipping figure Mohammad Hossein Shamkhani, which Washington claims plays a major role in facilitating Iran’s oil exports.
According to the department, the network uses a combination of Iranian and foreign nationals, companies and offshore shell firms to conduct sanctions-evasion operations and move proceeds from restricted trade activities.
"Today, we are designating more than 50 individuals, entities, and vessels that enable Shamkhani and the Iranian regime to continue profiting while the Iranian people suffer," the statement said.
The State Department added that Washington will continue using "all the tools at our disposal" to hold Iran’s government accountable for what it described as illicit activities.
