Tech billionaire Elon Musk filed a lawsuit against artificial intelligence company OpenAI on Monday, the New York Times reported. He helped found the company in 2015 and is now accusing it and its co-founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman of breach of contract, claiming they prioritized the commercial use of AI over its humanitarian purposes.
Musk initially sued the company in March but withdrew it in June without providing a reason. Musk's lawyer Marc Toberoff told the NYT that the previous lawsuit "lacked teeth" and that the updated filing is "much more forceful." According to the report, Musk also asked the court to decide whether OpenAI's technology has achieved "artificial general intelligence," arguing that, according to OpenAI's contract with Microsoft, Microsoft will no longer have the right to OpenAI's products once AGI is reached.
